This page is dedicated to my Australian Shepherd, Meriquai's Never Say Never CGC, aka "Chunk", April 16, 1998 - September 24, 2012. When he was born in 1998 I learned that when puppies are being born and you give each of them their little nick-names, make sure it's a name you like just in case you end up keeping a puppy you hadn't planned on keeping. Chunk got his name because he was so big when he was born. All the puppies weighed between 10 and 12 ounces and then out comes the last puppy, Chunk, at 13.5 ounces! The first thing I said when I saw him was "wow, you're such a little chunk" and the name stuck. I've also learned to "never say never" because he wasn't the puppy I'd planned to keep; I was looking to keep a new show prospect and he wasn't "it". I also didn't want to keep a male puppy at the time. But, it turned out that my Chunkie boy had other plans. When he was three weeks old and just starting to toddle around exploring on a blanket outside the whelping box, he'd leave his mom and littermates and start looking for me. Once he found me he'd plop down and fall asleep with a big sigh and his head on my foot. Of course, there was no way I could let him go to anyone else and I let my three show prospects go to good homes and he stayed exactly where he wanted to be; with me. While he wasn't a show dog, he was an awesome agility dog and we had many years of fun, fun, fun! Rest in peace, my sweet boy, you were AWESOME!
